About the event
Join us for an engaging information evening focused on breeding honey bees with natural resistance to the Varroa mite and preparing Western Australia for any future challenges.
Guest Speaker
Julien Duwez (Arista Bee Research, Netherlands – online) has spent time in WA earlier this year researching how Varroa-resistant breeding could succeed in our unique landscape. Julien will share his findings and introduce Arista Bee Research, a non-profit foundation based in the Netherlands dedicated to breeding honey bees resistant to Varroa. Arista works with beekeepers and researchers across Europe and beyond, developing and sharing practical programs that reduce reliance on chemical treatments and strengthen long-term bee health.
The presentation can spark a conversation on what we can do now — combining the latest research and practical experience to begin preparing WA before Varroa arrives. By pooling resources and working collaboratively, both commercial and hobbyist beekeepers can take steps today to strengthen our industry.…
