The Bee Industry Council of Western Australia (BICWA) is proud to announce that it has been awarded $500,000 under the Farm Business Resilience Program.

This significant investment will support the apiculture sector in building long-term sustainability and enhancing resilience in the face of increasing climate variability and other challenges.

The Farm Business Resilience Program is a collaborative initiative jointly funded by the WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries through the Future Drought Fund.

BICWA’s portion of the funding will be dedicated to delivering tailored training programs designed specifically for Western Australia’s beekeeping community. The program will enhance industry capacity in critical areas such as risk management, business planning, strategic decision-making, natural resource management, and personal resilience.

BICWA Chair, Melanie Tolich, welcomed the funding, stating:“This funding is significant for the apiculture sector in WA. Beekeepers face unique challenges, from variable weather patterns to the management of natural resources. This program will empower them with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to navigate these challenges while boosting the productivity and sustainability of their businesses.”

The training will be delivered in partnership with Value Creators, industry leaders, and experienced beekeepers who will share their insights and strategies.

By combining practical knowledge with strategic business tools, the program aims to support WA’s beekeepers in their vital role of supporting agriculture and biodiversity.

BICWA joins other key agricultural sectors, including dairy, horticulture, aquaculture, and pastoral industries, in benefitting from the Farm Business Resilience Program.

Together, these investments strengthen the backbone of Western Australia’s agricultural landscape, ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for the State’s farming businesses.
